• Why the edges are left unhemmed Both ends of the tenugui are intentionally left raw and unhemmed. Since there are no stitched seams, it dries rapidly and remains highly hygienic by preventing dirt and dust from getting trapped—making it perfectly suited for Japan’s hot and humid climate.

Please note that the edges will fray naturally when you first start using it. Simply trim any loose horizontal threads with scissors. The fraying will stop on its own once it reaches about 5 to 10 mm from the edge.
